Did I forget to turn the stove off? Will the house burn down? Such thoughts can occur while we are rushing off to our daily business, but we don't let them stop us. For K, though, this is a morning when her anxiety about fire takes over. Her measures for preventing catastrophe become increasingly compulsive and absurd. Finally, having eliminated the risk, K manages to leave. But fire finds an unexpected path.
