Collectors of the Lost Russia
Collectors of the Lost Russia
Millions of people left Russia after the revolution as emigrants who could not accept the new order. But even a larger number stayed behind, unable to bring themselves to leave their homeland. The memories of the lost age lived on even though the Bolsheviks crudly tried to eliminate every remnant of the bourgeois life-style; its art, religion and artefacts. While in the streets of Saint Petersburg people sold their own shoelaces in order to survive, the objects became a political protest which no one could bring out in the open in fear of deportation or execution. Everything that alluded to the time before the revolution was banned and people became exiles in their own country. "Collectors of the Lost Russia" is a film about three of them.
