The Day Iceland Stood Still
The Day Iceland Stood Still
On a morning in 1975, 90% of Icelandic women walked off their jobs and out of their homes, refusing to work, cook, or take care of the children. The country was brought to a standstill and Iceland suddenly became the “best place in the world to be a woman.” The story is subversive and funny. “We loved our male chauvinist pigs,” recalls one of the activists, “We just wanted to change them a little!”
