Eastern Memories
G. J. Ramstedtin maailma
The Finnish adventurer, diplomat and linguist Gustaf John Ramstedt is all but forgotten. His story is about identity, language, and representing a small Nordic country in the whirlwind of the wide world. It is an adventure played out in Mongolia and Japan, and a story that began in the last years of the 19th century, stretching all the way to the present. The film delivers silence and solitude in nature; death and war; loneliness and human relationships; and the search for the origin of the Finnish language on the steppes of Mongolia.
