Grey Violet (not he or she, but ze) a mathematician by profession, is an activist by heart. He is forced to leave Russia for fear of imprisonment. Back in Moscow, ze was harassed by various neo-conservative groups and even singled out by President Putin. ze is applying for asylum in Finland, leaving behind Grey Violet’s mother Svetlana. She agonises over her son’s future and wonders how things came to this.
