Mari Soppela always knew that her paternal grandfather was a German soldier. In 1944 her grandmother Helvi left Finland secretly with the German army. She later returned with a small child in tow. Helvi never told her son his father’s name and Mari's father grew up as a little German in a big Finnish family. In 2010, Mari found her grandmother's interrogation files, detailing her WW2 love affair. It turned out that the soldier was already married when he met Helvi. Mari Soppela sets off to unveil her father's father.
